Squid Jigger on Caplin Bay

Loved this place! Good food, excellent service and stunning views from the terrace. I had a cod tongue dinner and my partner had the seafood chowder followed by a moose burger - all tasty! Reasonably priced too.

The fish and chips were amazing, as was the staff and service. Couple this with live music, and it was a great experience.

I spent a week is St John’s trying a lot of seafood but I was SURPRISED that the best seafood I had during my stay was at Squid Jiggler Like most small town restaurants, the place doubled up as a bar and slot machine hall ... so admittedly my expectations were low. However, I had the best cod and scallop that I’ve ever eaten in my life at this restaurant. The 3pcs pan fried cod was thick cut, soft and juicy. After having that meal, it was apprent that I’ve only had frozen cod all my life! My wife had the fried scallops ... perfectly breaded on the outside but the meat had so much juice and flavor that it calls to question if we have everything we’ve had in the past was frozen and tasteless. I came in July when it was cod season and the waitress did say that the cod was caught fresh yesterday. She also recommended the seafood chowder which I did not find much better than any of the other chowder I’ve had in St John’s. Overall, this was a gem of a find

We were on our way back from Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve and famished. We spotted this place and noticed that there were quite a few cars. It really doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside is comfortable. They were setting up for live music a little later. We had a window looking out over the bay directly behind the restaurant. We ordered the seafood chowder and it is hands down, The Best I have ever had. No potato filler, just fresh seafood in a cream soup that you could stand on because it's so thick. We also had fish and chips. We got the gravy and dressing on the fries, a Newfoundland specialty. The gravy was wonderful and brown. The fries were crispy and didn't get soggy. The fish was well done, crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. The staff was so great! We definitely recommend this place!!

Food was great ! The chowder came with a delicious piece of bread, and the chowder was just creamy sea food goodness. The fish and chips are a must try. They gave large portions with fresh cod !

Excellent fish and chips! Good portion size, homemade chips(fries) and real gravy! Recently ate there again, even better than the last time if that was possible, and it was. UPDATE: Newly renovated, more seating available, beautiful outdoor deck for dining when the weather is nice. Food is excellent as always! Still in my top 3 Fish and Chips on the Avalon!!!
